A diverse portfolio
Since our humble beginnings extending six farm cottages in Belford, DP Builders has grown into a versatile contractor that has delivered over 700 successful projects. Our extensive portfolio spans domestic, commercial, and public sectors across the North of England and Scottish borders. From the striking ‘ship-in-sail’ coastal lookout of the Blyth Amenity Building and the heritage-rich RNLI Grace Darling Museum to major milestones like Horton Grange, Beadnell Holiday Village, and our largest contract to date at Matfen Hall (£11m), we approach every challenge with an unwavering commitment to quality and a proven capability for complex technical specifications.
Family-owned & operated
DP Builders has a talented, long-serving workforce that has driven our success since our founding in 1974 by Douglas and Eleanor Paterson, and our incorporation in October 1977 (when we built our premises at Coquet Enterprise Park in Amble). Evolving successfully with industry demands, we believe our high standards of workmanship and versatility are key to our enduring success.
Now led by Douglas’ son, Ewan Paterson, who became Managing Director in 2011 after starting his career as a bricklayer and mason, our leadership team is deeply rooted in the trades. This hands-on expertise has fostered exceptional staff stability, marked by milestone appointments like our first Quantity Surveyor in September 1987, John Paterson, who is still a director today. By employing our own highly skilled workforce, many of whom have been with us for over 20 years, we bring a combined wealth of knowledge to every project. Committed to nurturing future talent, we have proudly trained over 50 apprentices to date.
